Mathew And His Amazing Journey To Break My Heart Essays

Mathew And His Amazing Journey To Break My Heart Mathew and his Amazing Journey to Break my Heart Take a gander at how his hair twists down on his brow! Isnt that so charming? I murmured to my closest companion Jenny who was situated close to me. Jenny and I have known each other since we were in diapers with therapeutic rings. I could foresee what she would do or say; it was even discovered that I could determine what she would be wearing that day, without her in any event, letting me know. We were both precisely indistinguishable additionally; enamored with Mathew Jackson, in adoration with NSYNC, in affection with the shading pink, and the rundown went on. I despite everything have recollections of the pink caps we had that coordinated our pink dresses that we wore on Easter. What's more, the Barbies we played with in Jennys pink dollhouse. Indeed, even the shading books we hued totally pink. I likewise still have trillions of closest companion accessories Jenny and I purchased and trillions of letters that explain JENNY AND VALERIE ARE BEST FRIENDS FOREVER. So this is the rea son I could disclose to you that Jenny would concur with my remark about Mathews hair. Truly it is! she murmured. We were as yet shocked to be in a similar room as Mathew Jackson, the most attractive eighth grade kid; I take that back, the most attractive center school kid we both had ever observed. He was a practiced understudy and competitor. He had everything and anything a person could ever need, certainly an ideal 10. He was the leader of Green Valley Middle School. Which clarifies what we were doing in a similar stay with him. He was turning out a portion of the pledge drives we could do to fund-raise for our excursion to Washington D.C. in April. At the point when Jenny and I discovered that Mathew would have been available on the outing, we realized we must be there. The schedule on the divider advised the month to be February, and on the off chance that we avoided a couple of pages to April, D.C. TRIP!!!!!! was set apart in red and yellow, our school hues. We would have been riding on a train right from Tennessee to Washington D.C. I needed to collect a great deal of cash to enable my folks to out however much as could be expected, also get saw by Mathew, who was at the highest point of the gathering pledges advisory group, for collecting the most cash. I kicked back and really attempted to focus on what he is stating. Jenny was indeed situated close to me, this time in our train lodge. We were practically prepared to leave the train station in Tennessee for Washington D.C when I chose to impart my considerations to Jenny: I wonder what Mathew is doing well at this point. I realized she would be pondering too. Me as well, she said. Wouldnt that be absolutely bodacious on the off chance that he got situated in our lodge? That would be marvelous, however absolutely ridiculous! We realized that we in all likelihood got no opportunity with Mathew, however we both thought that it was enjoyable to imagine we did. We thought down at the magazine we were perusing. Afterward, laughing about the over the top garments we found in the magazine, Jenny and I admired wind up gazing at Mathew and his companion Joe moving into OUR CABIN! We couldnt accept our eyes! Joe burped, pretty uproariously, at that point both hopped up and arrived simultaneously, which made a gigantic crash that reverberated all through the train. Jenny and I traded bewildered looks as the two left the lodge. The train was simply beginning to move when Mathew and Joe ran back in. He squinted at us. Hello, young ladies, he said with a grin. Is it true that you are two 6th graders? Is it accurate to say that he was conversing with us? I continued asking myself. At long last I woke up and replied, as Jenny was still in her own condition of stun. No doubt, were 6th graders. I said. He gestured. Weight was on us, what to state, what to state? Im Jenny, and this is, EEEEK! I had quite recently completely failed, I was so anxious! Im sorry, I am Valerie, this is Jenny, I said and highlighted my closest companion. Our discussion

One of those big picture days

One of those “big picture” days A preview, courtesy of todays MIT homepage: It was 2:03 pm when I ripped out the carbon record of my experimental results and dashed out of the 5.310 (Experimental Chemistry) lab. Though the lab period is scheduled to end at 5 pm, today was the end of a four-day experiment and we had finished early. I had two minutes to get to Kresge auditorium, where Julie Gerberding, the director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), was scheduled to give a talk titled Health System Transformation: Getting Our Moneys Worth of Healthness.' What is healthness (not a typo)? I had no idea, but ever since elementary school I have dreamed of working in the Biosafety Level 4 facilities of the CDC, and I wasn’t about to miss an opportunity to hear an infectious disease expert speak, let alone someone who is basically in charge of protecting the health of our country. President Susan Hockfield gave an introduction to the talk, citing Gerberding’s experience in medicine and public health and that she was named #12 on Forbes Magazine’s “100 Most Powerful Women” list in 2005. Gerberding was also apparently involved with setting up the Novartis-MIT Center for Continuous Manufacturing (a 10-year partnership between MIT and one of the biggest pharma companies in the world. ) The main problem that Gerberding and the CDC are trying to address is the fact that the U.S. is ranked #37 in the world for its health system (according to the World Health Organization.) This is appalling; we consider ourselves to be a world leader and we spend the most money on healthcare, yet our health outcomes are dismal! The current system spends an inordinate proportion of the money on people who are already sick, instead of preventing sickness from happening in the first place. Gerberding believes that protecting health is a strategic national investment, and that we’re at a tipping point where we can greatly increase the value of the healthcare system if we just invested a little more. Her vision is a “value-based health system.” She also emphasized that we need to find better measures of “healthiness” and we also need to reward good results in the healthcare arena. (If this interests you, consider taking 17.315 (Health Policy) or 17.317 (U.S. Social Policy). I’v e taken them both, they’re great!) For those of you who think that changing the healthcare system is impossible, she gave the example of Kennedy’s 1961 space challenge. Even though sending men to the moon seemed utterly unattainable to most people, including NASA scientists, the challenge was met eight years and 59 days later. Gerberding hopes that by May 30, 2016 (the same # of days from today), America will become “a healthiest nation” (again, not a typo. She emphasized that all nations need to be healthy, we shouldn’t be the only ones.) How does this apply to MIT? The end of the talk focused on “translating health discovery to health.” She emphasized that bench research (done at places like MIT) ends up becoming clinical practice. We need to use our knowledge of systems to evaluate the health outcomes of these clinical practices. Finally, we need to combat problems like obesity by examining a person’s environment. Otherwise, Gerberding warns, our children may have shorter life spans than we do (!) I saw President Hockfield slip out of the auditorium at around 3:00, and the talk ended at about 3:05. A friend and I made the decision to skip the QA session and see if we could make it over to Tom Brokaw’s talk, which was scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm in the Stata Center. Off we went to follow Hockfield! Of course, the line outside of the Stata lecture hall was very long (as opposed to Gerberding’s talk, which had plenty of seats to go around.) The MIT news page introduces the event best: “An internationally respected journalist, Brokaw served as the NBC anchor for 21 years. He was the NBC White House correspondent during the Watergate scandal, advancing to lead NBCs coverage of primaries, national conventions and election nights in 1984, 1988 and 1992. Brokaw, 68, is the author of The Greatest Generation (1998) and A Long Way from Home (2002). The Karl Taylor Compton Lecture Series was established in 1957 to honor the late Karl Taylor Compton, who served as president of MIT from 1930 to 1948 and chairman of the Corporation from 1948 to 1954. The purpose of the lectureship is to give the MIT community direct contact with the important ideas of our times and with people who have contributed much to modern thought.” I got fourth row center seats and couldn’t wait to hear his familiar voice bellow from a few feet in front of me. Again, President Hockfield introduced the distinguished guest, and then Brokaw took the stage. He is the most poised speaker I have ever seen. With a pen in his right hand, he delivered his speech in a way that nobody else could. His pauses were perfectly placed, he emphasized just the right words and captivated everyone’s attention. I have to admit that I was so caught up with thinking about his gravitas that my mind wandered and I didn’t pay all that much attention to what he was saying =) I also didn’t take notes because I wanted to focus on watching him…just like on TV but better! He began by making a joke that giving the Compton lecture was the only circumstance in which he would be admitted to MIT (according to Wikipedia, “Tom Brokaw dropped out of The University of Iowa, where he says he majored in beer and co-eds before receiving his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1962.”) He also joked about how he was afraid that he would also have to speak at Harvard (which he referred to as something along the lines of the’ lesser institution up the street’, which drew much applause) and how he has commiserated with Harvard dropouts like Bill Gates over not being accepted to the college. Anyway, he described how he grew up in South Dakota and then talked about some of his experiences as a journalist. He has met every president since Kennedy, conducted the first American TV interviews with Mikhail Gorbachev, Vladimir Putin, and Yevgeny Primakov, reported the collapse of the Berlin Wall, covered the September 11th attacks, and so much more. He’s been in the midst of almost every conflict that you can imagine and he told some heartbreaking and inspiration stories. Basically, he’s the kind of person that you’d die to have dinner with (incidentally, some MIT students got to have lunch with him earlier today. They said it was amazing!) The directly MIT-relevant part of his talk was about the role of information technology in our lives. He described the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet as a media outlet, and the advent of the 24-hour news cycle. He warned us that we have to be careful about where we get our information and that, as consumers, our decisions can affect what is covered (like car chases vs. world conflict.) There was more that he discussed… but I’ll leave it to Bryan to fill in the gaps =) I still can’t believe that they scheduled these lectures back-to-back. What happened to spreading the love? I should have added this to my “10 reasons why I love MIT”: the lectures! We get to hear some of the most amazing people in the world, it’s really a privilege. Incidentally, our graduation speaker will be Muhammad Yunus, winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace prize. I can’t wait! P.S. Thanks for the Brokaw pict, Bryan! P.P.S. An example of Brokaw in action:

Heart Rate and Blood Pressure Responses to Warm Whirlpool Treatment Free Essay Example, 2750 words

Literature Review: Several studies have been undertaken to evaluate the possible risks associated with hot water tubs and produce evidence in support of the risk warning that have stemmed from the hemodynamics involved in the environments of saunas, spas and hot tub baths. Boone Westendorf and Ayres, 1999, provide information on a limited exposure of young subjects to a hot tub bath. Based on a study of five young subjects, who were exposed to a fifteen minutes immersion in a hot tub bath maintained at a temperature of 39 degrees Centigrade, Boone, Westendorf, and Ayres, 1999, found that at fifteen minutes there was an increase in heart rate, and cardiac output, while there was a decrease in mean arterial pressure and systolic blood pressure. The increase in cardiac output was attributed to the decrease in systemic vascular resistance and this increase in cardiac output along with the increase in heart rate was the response to the increased metabolism that resulted from the immersion in a hot tub bath. In the opinion of the others exposure in a hot water bath for the limited time of fifteen minutes posed no health risks to young subjects (Boone, Westendorf, & Ayres, 1999). Findings from the normo-temperature bath showed that besides a decrease in heart rate all other variables demonstrated no significant change, while findings from hot tub bath showed that after ten minutes from the entry in the bath the mean blood pressure decreased while there was an increase in heart rate and skin blood flow, while at the same time it was observed that there was an increase in the core temperature. This rise in core temperature during immersion in a hot tub bath for more than ten minutes has been attributed as the cause for the cardiovascular changes observed (Miwa, et al, 1994). The Katoaka and Yoshida study, 2005, on a y oung healthy adults, comparing the effects of hot tub immersion at 38 degrees Centigrade and forty one degrees Centigrade give support to the evidence that there is hardly any significant increase in heart rate and blood pressure in hot tub baths where the temperature is maintained at near normal temperature level of the human body.

Why Minnie Wright Has Murdered Her Husband - 1021 Words

In the play Trifles, the reader is led to an understanding on why Minnie wright has murdered her husband. This revelation can lead the reader to understand why Mrs. Hale defends Minnie so vehemently. If the reader analyses the environment, the factors, and the theme of this play one can come to the conclusion about why Mrs. Hale defended Minnie. The environment of the play takes place in the early 1900’s. The roles of the family members were much different then than they are today. The Husband would often times do the hard work that would take place outside, and the wife would simply take care of the house and children. This system was actually pretty efficient, but some men saw themselves more powerful than the woman, and often would discriminate against the woman. While investigating the house in the kitchen the sheriff states, â€Å"Nothing here but kitchen things.† And the County Attorney says, â€Å"Here s a nice mess† in reference to the sticky substance on the shelf. Mrs. Peters makes a statement on Mrs. Wright’s fruit preserves and after this statement has been made the sheriff and the County Attorney make remarks to even further degrade the position that woman held by stating, â€Å"Well, can you beat the women! Who was Heinrich Himmler essays

Who was Heinrich Himmler essays Heinrich Himmler was Reichsfhrer-SS (Reich SS Leader) and Chief of the German police. In this capacity, he was responsible for the implementation of the Final Solution - the extermination of the Jews - as ordered by the Fhrer, Adolf Hitler. He was born in Munich on October 7, 1900. His father was the son of a police president, a former tutor to the princes of the Bavarian court, and a headmaster by profession. Himmler originally intended to be a farmer and in fact acquired a degree in agronomy. He fought in World War I at the every end, and afterwards drifted into one of the many right wing soldier's organizations that were so prevalent at the time. It is here that he came into contact with Hitler. He took part in the Hitler Putsch (the attempt to overthrow the government) of 1923 as a standard-bearer. He married Margret Boden in 1926. In 1929, Hitler appointed him head of the SS, which at that time numbered about 300 men and served mainly as a bodyguard for Hitler. A superb organizer, he had already expanded the SS to 50,000 men by 19 By 1936, he had consolidated police power in Germany and was named Chief of the German police on June 17 of that year. With all organs of the police, especially the Gestapo (secret state police), now under his control, his power was virtually without limit. In addition to his other responsibilities, he was also responsible for the security services (Sicherheitsdienst) and the concentration camps, which up to that time housed prisoners of the state. Himmler's men staged the phony border incident that Hitler used to justify the invasion of Poland at the outbreak of World War II. As the war went on, the armored portions of the SS - the Waffen SS - began to rival the Armed Forces for power in the military field, culminating in Himmler's being named Minister of the Interior in 1943 and chief of the Replacement Army in 1944. Right up to the end, he was one of Hitler's most loyal men. Hit...

50 Important Facts You Should Know About Teachers

50 Important Facts You Should Know About Teachers For the most part, teachers are undervalued and underappreciated. This is especially sad considering the tremendous impact that teachers have on a daily basis. Teachers are some of the most influential people in the world, yet the profession is continuously mocked and put down instead of being revered and respected. A large majority of people have misconceptions about teachers and do not truly understand what it takes to be an effective educator. The Silent Majority As in any profession, there are teachers who are great and those who are bad. When adults look back on their years in school, they often remember the great teachers and the bad teachers. However, those two groups only combine to represent an estimated 5% of all teachers. Based on this estimate, 95% of teachers fall somewhere in between those two groups. This 95% may not be memorable, but they are the teachers who show up every day, do their jobs and receive little recognition or praise. Misunderstood Profession The teaching profession is often misunderstood. The majority of non-educators do not have any idea what it takes to teach effectively. They do not understand the daily challenges that teachers across the country must overcome to maximize the education their students receive. Misconceptions will likely continue to fuel perceptions about the teaching profession until the general public understands the true facts about teachers. What You May Not Know About Teachers The following statements are generalized. Though each statement may not be true for every teacher, they are indicative of the thoughts, feelings, and work habits of the majority of teachers. Instead, they become teachers because they want to make a difference in shaping young peoples lives.Teachers do not just work from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with summers off. Most arrive early, stay late and take papers home to grade. They have lives outside of school. They have terrible days and good days. They make mistakes. Teachers want a principal and administration that support what they are doing, provide suggestions for improvement and value their contributions to their school.Teachers are creative and original. No two teachers do things exactly alike. Even when they use another teacher’s ideas, they often put their own spin on them.Teachers are continuously evolving. They are always searching for better ways to reach their students.Teachers do have favorites. They may not come out and say it, but there are those students, for whatever reason, with whom they have a natural connection.Teachers become irritated with parents who do not understand that education should be a partnership between themselves and their child’s teachers.Teachers are control freaks. They hate it when things do not go according to plan.Teachers understand that individual students and individual classes are different and tailor their lessons to meet those individual needs.Teachers do not always get along with each other. Cost Control in Food and Beverage Companies

Cost Control in Food and Beverage Companies Product oriented companies create a production budget which estimates the number of units that must be manufactured to meet the sales goals. The production budget also estimates the various costs involved with manufacturing those units, including labour and material. Cash Flow/Cash budget: The cash flow budget is a prediction of future cash receipts and expenditures for a particular time period. It usually covers a period in the short term future. It projected statement used for internal planning and estimates how much money will flow into and out of a business during a designated period of time, usually the coming tax year. Complex adaptive systems Essay

Introduction Organizations should always adapt to a changing environment. The business environment is characterized by a number of changes which are a result of many factors, both external and internal. Nature is continuously changing and adapting. According to the complex adaptive systems theory, organizations must keep on revising their goals to come up with something new. This can be done through testing new ways of doing things, as dictated by the changes in the society. The theory asserts that natural variations create confusion and chaos, and ensure long-term survival. In addition to this, some of these variations are useless to nature. The study of the relationship between chaos, adaptability and survival is very important for all organizations (Holland, 1992). For our case Company, Costco, the managers must understand how the natural world influences business strategy. The managers ought to take into consideration that only a few of the natural variations succeed. This has a serious implication on leadership and innovation at Costco. To be strategically placed in the retail industry, Costco ought to understand that there is a need to test survival strategies to identify the most adaptive innovation. Innovation is all about coming with something new, but it is greatly influenced by adaptive systems. A study of complex adaptive systems will help Costco understand how natural systems interact, survive and adapt over time. This way, Costco can up with a strategy that can remain relevant even when natural systems change. The company should understand that boundaries cannot be imposed from outside. For Costco these boundaries are management hierarchies, division offices, departments, and so forth. For the complex adaptive systems to function fully there ought to be continuous feedback. The feedback can be positive or negative (Lansing, 2003). Costco must understand that positive feedback will elevate their outputs while negative one will lower their profitability. For those reason, Costco should carry out forecasts to understand the future. References Lansing, J. S. (2003). Complex adaptive systems. Annual review of anthropology, 183-204. Â   Holland, J. H. The Sorrow of War Essay - 1244 Words

The Sorrow of War Bao Ninh’s The Sorrow of War is a novel that is a personal view of the Vietnam War from the perspective of a Vietnamese soldier. Like the American novel â€Å"The things they carried†, this novel brings about the effects of war on people, and especially how it defeats the human capacity for things such as love and hope. Bao Ninh offers this realistic picture of the Vietnam War’s impact on the individual Vietnamese soldier through use of a series of reminiscences or flashbacks, jumping backwards and forwards in time between the events most salient in memory, events which take on a different theme each time they are examined. His main protagonist Kien, who is basically Bao himself, looks back not just at his ten years at†¦show more content†¦Along with not seeing the bigger picture soldiers lost their ordinary lives due to the war and the contrast was so different between pre and post war that it was hard to cope with life for the men fighting in the war. â€Å"For Kien, the most attractive, persistent echo of the past is the whisper of ordinary life, even though the sounds of ordinary life have been washed away by the long storms of war. It is the whispers of friends and ordinary people that are the most horrifying.†(63) The strongest emotions occur as the story unfolds and life takes over from childhood fantasies, destroying individuals and their families as a whole society is remade for instance Kien’s sweetheart before the war. Kien abandons his lover and instead spends the next years plodding through the jungle where everything dies. no jungle grew again in this clearing. No grass, no plants (26). When war ends he has a struggle to rebuild that was once loss, he can no longer see the good of things while he slowly goes insane with out love and hope and of course no sweetheart to aid him. The Yellow Wallpaper And Mrs. Dalloway - 1220 Words

In Mrs. Dalloway, Septimus, a supporting character struggles with a mental illness that is most likely Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Similarly, in The Yellow Wallpaper, the narrator also struggles with a mental illness which could be related to postpartum depression. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, author of The Yellow Wallpaper struggled with depression and Virginia Woolf, author of Mrs. Dalloway, suffered childhood trauma and was bipolar (McMan). Both story’s views on mental illness are most likely heavily influenced by each author’s personal experience with mental illness. The Yellow Wallpaper and Mrs. Dalloway both reflect society’s negative view toward mental illness during the late 19th and early 20th century as both stories have themes of scarring symptoms, unreliable doctors, shameful therapy and feelings of isolation. Society’s View Mrs. Dalloway is set in 1923, a time where mental illness was extremely looked down upon and seen as a sign of weakness—much more so than today. In Mrs. Dalloway, Virginia Woolf chose to write Septimus into the story and have him struggle with mental illness. Sadly, Septimus reaches a point where he would rather choose â€Å"death of the body instead of death of the soul† and he commits suicide by jumping out of a window (SparkNotes Editors). Teaching has always been my lifetime desire. I look forward with great anticipation to the day when I teach my own class. This will give me the opportunity to instill in the children a thirst for knowledge. This is also a chance for me to make the children realize their unique potential for greatness and open their eyes to the beautiful world around them. Before getting involved in my formal education classes and field experiences in Elementary Education at Pennsylvania State University, I thought being an educator involved teaching the students basic skills, assigning homework, and testing their knowledge. I soon found out that this monotonous routine does not maximize student interest and learning. Through my valuable student teaching experience, I have come to identify with a teaching paradigm known as Inquiry learning. In this particular paradigm, knowledge is viewed as functional and pleasurable. Children learn from the questions they pose. Key skills are learned in context and focus on child interest rather than artificial and made-up. This type of education concentrates on student interest. Children are focused and on-task because they are directly involved in their own learning. The Inquiry Paradigm also allows for numerous hands-on learning experiences. Another aspect of Inquiry learning is that the teacher is viewed as a â€Å"partner along the journey† instead of â€Å"Supreme Being†. I firmly believe that a teacher should treat her students as partners on a journey. This allows students to feel independent and responsible for their own learning. Analysis of Macro and Micro Factors impacting on the Fashion Industry The global fashion industry is influence by several factors on which the business owner has little control. It is important that a company adapt itself to these factors to succeed. In this report, the macro environment of the fashion industry is analysed through PEST analysis (Applegate Johnsen, 2007). Political factors: The fashion industry is influenced by the labour laws and political environment of a country. The trade laws and the export laws also influence the fashion companies. Economic factors: In the times of economic boom, the customers have more disposable income in their hands. Therefore, the customers are more inclined to buy fashion products. In contrast to it, recessions have a negative impact on the sales of the fashion industry. Social Factors: It includes factors such as culture, lifestyle, and demographics. The fashion companies have to create items that appeal the targeted market segment. In addition to it, demographics also influence the consumer behaviour, for example, in places where the birth rate is low, demand for baby clothes will be low (Duff, 2016). Technological Factors: In fashion industry, technology plays a critical role in marketing and operations. Analysis of Micro Factors influencing the Fashion Industry The micro environment includes those factors that can be controlled by the management of the organisation. The most important factors are competition, supplier and consumers. The micro environment of the fashion industry is analysed by the porters five force model. The porters five force analysis examines the competitiveness in a given market on the basis of five forces, namely, buyer power, supplier power, competitive rivalry, the threat of new entrants and the threat of substitution (Porter, 2008). Buyer Power: In fashion industry, a consumer has multiple options for a single product. There are numerous international and national competitors and the consumers can easily switch companies without any switching cost. Therefore, the bargaining power of the consumers is high. Supplier power: In the fashion industry, the products are outsourced from cheap labour companies such as China and Bangladesh. Thus, the suppliers share significantly amount of the net profit. Moreover, they can be easily replaced. Therefore, the bargaining power of the suppliers is low. Industry Rivalry: In the fashion industry, there are a large number of retailers who sell similar products. Therefore, there is intense competition among the companies. There is very small innovation in the industry and most of the companies are at price wars. However, there are also several luxurious brands sell products at a high cost, but the market share for these companies is very low. As a result, the industry rivalry in this industry is high. Threat of New Entrants: Fashion industry is considered as a saturated industry due to the number of retailers in the business. There is little innovation in the industry, which makes it difficult for the new organisations to distinguish themselves from the older ones. However, the companies can utilize extensive marketing strategies to distinguish themselves. The operational costs of the companies are also medium. Therefore, the threat of new entrants in neither low nor high in fashion industry. Threat of substitution: There is no substitution to the fashion apparels and the fashion products. Therefore, all the substitution to the fashion products is between different companies and brands. The threat of substitution in the fashion industry is low. On the basis of 12 Cs framework, China is selected as the most suitable country for market expansion due to its infrastructure, suitable distribution channel, large market and capacity of the consumers to pay. However, the company has to make changes in its market mix to appeal to the local customers. Product: As Chinese society is conservative and traditional, it is important to integrate the ethnic taste and culture while developing the clothes and apparels for the traditional customers (Wenderoth, 2009). Price: As discussed, there is a large segment in the Chinese society who is willing to pay higher for valued products. However, inexpensive products lost their appeal to large section of society. It is important to determine the price of the products according to a specific strategy. Promotion: The Chinese customers are different from their Western counterparts. Therefore, various advertisements popular in the USA and Europe might be perceived as confusing in China. It is important to develop a promotional strategy inspired by local culture. Conclusion Michael Kors has carved itself a distinct place in the fashion industry. Following the intent of expanding into international markets, the report has examined the current position of the company and potential markets, namely, China, India, Iran and Russia for future expansion. It has been evaluated in the report that China is the best market for the company, if changes are made in its marketing mix. References Applegate, E., Johnsen, A. (2007). Any person can tell that Edgar Allen Poe does a great Job drawing in the reader by using specific themes to add effect his short stories, The Cask of the Amontillado, Hop Frog, and the Tell-Tale Heart. The use of theme in his short stories makes the reader want more. His use of revenge in his short stories makes the reader more curious and raises the level of suspense. Poe does well in using revenge to keep the reader engaged. The narrators view in each of the story gives you the main characters view f the story, which creates a bias towards that character. In some stories the reader will feel the murder was Justified. First, Hop-Frog is the story of a crippled Jester who was pushed to the point to murder. His fool, or professional Jester, was not only a fool, however. His value was trebled in the eyes of the king, by the fact of his being also a dwarf and a cripple. One evening the King had decided to have a masquerade and have Hop-Frog and his dwarf friend, Trippetta, organize the characters and ostumes for the party. After he summons both of them the king makes Hop Frog drink a goblet of wine. After they are all intoxicated, Hop Frog planned to get revenge on the king and seven other cabinet members. He tricks them into chaining themselves for the people attending the masquerade, and make them look like great beasts. Hop Frog chains them up and covers them completely in tar and flax. Once the party starts, Hop Frog raises the Eight Chained Ourang-outangs thirty feet in the air and proceeds to set them on fire. He then climbs back up the chains and scapes out a window and disappeared with Trippetta. The theme of revenge in Hop- Frog plays a big role in how the story plays out. The use of revenge as a theme in this story does a great Job at keeping the reader engaged into the story. It makes the reader really want to know and think what is going to happen next. When Hop-Frog chains the King and his members up, it makes the reader curious about what he plans to do to them. In less than half a minute the whole eight ourang-outangs were blazing fiercely, amid the shrieks of the multitude who gazed at them from below, orror-stricken, and without the power to render them the slightest assistance. In this story the revenge is not thought out but more in the moment and under the influence of alcohol. Hop-Frog plans out this revenge because of all the times he was picked on by the king. He was sick of it all, so he planned to murder the king and under the influence of alcohol gave him the confidence to pull it off. The narrator as a witness to the events of the story also plays a big rol e in the story Hop-Frog. The narrators view throughout the story is on the negative things that happen to Hop- Frog. This creates a big personal bias and makes the reader favor the actions of Hop- Frog. It makes the reader feel bad for the main character and decide that the murder is Justified. The narrator is also a witness of all the actions that take place throughout threw the contents of the brimming goblet in her face. In this scene the narrator witnesses Tripetta trying to stop the king from making Hop-Frog drink alcohol, and the King ends up throwing his drink in Tripettas face. The narrator sees this and makes the reader feel bad for the two and wants to help them. Later, the narrator lso witnesses Hop-Frog setting the king and his cabinet members burned alive from the chandelier. The use of the theme setting creates a must-need image of the main character and his reason for the murder. The main character uses the fire as a dramatic element not only as a part of the setting but also part of the murder. The narrator uses the chandelier as a huge part in the setting as the place where the murder occurs. He uses the chandelier to present the eight members, then set them on fire and kill them all. And now, while the whole assembly (the apes included) were onvulsed with laughter, the Jester suddenly uttered a shrill whistle; when the chain flew violently up for about thirty feet-dragging with it the dismayed and struggling ourang-outangs, and leaving them suspended in midair betweenthe skylight and the floor. After he brings them to the chandelier he lights them on fire, giving the setting a dramatic element to draw the reader deeper into the story . Next, the Tell-Tale Heart is story of a madman who murders the old man he lives with because of his eye. The narrator opens the story and explains why he had to take the life of the old an. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees-very gradually-I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. For seven straight nights he would stick his head in the room where the old man sleeps and would beam a light from a lantern at the eye. On the eighth night the old man woke up as the narrator stuck his head in the room. The narrator beamed the light later at the eye and the man was awake. This angered the narrator and scared the old man to the point where the narrator could hear it. The narrator hen burst in the room and smothered the old man with his mattress until it killed him. He dismembered the body and proceeded to put the parts underneath the floor boards of the house. When the police came to investigate the disappearance, he heard the beating of his own heart and the guilt caused him to confess to the murder. Another thing is that the use of revenge in the Tell-Tale Heart is kind of different than the other two stories. In this story, the form of murder is more premeditated and planned out than Just at the right time. The narrator had planned o take the life of the old man a week before killing him. And this I did for seven long nights-every night Just after midnight-but I found the eye always closed. He watched him for seven straight nights until killing him on the eighth. The use of revenge as a theme in this story keeps the reader wondering when he will kill the old man and how he plans to kill him. It keeps the reader wanting to read more and gets the reader more curious about what will happen. Another reason why the narrator killed the old man was out of self-guilt. After the murder was complete, the narrator heard he beating of his heart and felt so guilty for killing the old man he confessed. The narrator couldnt handle hearing the beating of his heart because it sounded Just like the old mans when the narrator killed him. The narrators view in the Tell-Tale Heart was also the same as the others. It created a personal bias that made you think that that the murder wasnt as Justified as the others. In this story he murders this poor old man because he was bothered by one of his eyes. One of his eyes resembled that of a vulture-a pale blue eye, with a film over it. The theme of the narrators view n this story makes you want to believe that the killing of the old man is for the better. It tries to make you feel that its fine and its no big deal. Another thing on the narrators view is he watched the old man every night. He stood by the door in the floor and had it cracked Ju st enough to see him. The use of setting is a theme that plays a big part in Poes the Tell-Tale Heart. In the Tell-Tale Heart the narrator uses the darkness to murder the old man. It gives the main character a more secretive nature when he is using his setting to scare the old man. The setting is also a big art after the murder has taken place. The old man sleeps in a large room that only has an opening in the floor to enter and leave. This gives the narrator an easy way to murder the old man. After the main character kills the old man and dismembers him he proceeds to bury him in the floor boards. l then replaced the boards so cleverly, so cunningly, that no human eye-not even his-could have detected anything wrong. The place where he hides the dismembered parts is very significant. When people come around to ask about the old man it ends up that they are standing right above im. The writer uses the setting to reflect the details throughout the killing. Also, the Cask of the Amontillado, the story of a man wanting revenge on another man, who supposedly ridiculed him thousands of times. The evening starts at dusk during the madness of a carnival where the narrators victim had already been drinking too much. There he decides to enact his revenge on the intoxicated Fortunato by using Amontillado. He draws his victim in saying he Just received a large cask of wine called Amontillado. As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If anyone has a critical urn, it is he. The narrator says this to get Fortunato to come with him and he ends up agreeing. He follows the narrator down deep into the catacombs underneath Paris. The narrator gets Fortunato to go into a room far at the end of the vaults and chains his victim to the wall covered in skulls and bones. He then pr oceeds to brick up the room so no one can enter and find the chained Fortunato. The story ends with the narrator putting the final brick in place, closing the room for half of a century of nothing disturbing it.
